Intrepid Superhero Pets: Dozer the Dog Runs Marathon
Dozer, a 3-year-old Goldendoodle from Fulton, Maryland, saw 2,000-plus runners competing in the Maryland Half Marathon from his garden. The intrepid dog jumped the fence and joined the fray of runners.
With his big tail waving like a flag and his friendly dog-smile, Dozer ran his way into the hearts of the human runners he encountered along the route, all of whom were running to benefit the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center. Seven miles later, he crossed the finish line at the 2:14:24 mark. The runners did not know Dozer was alone.
Dozer deserved a medal
Maryland Half Marathon co-founder Jon Sevel said many runners spotted Dozer in various places on the course, at times lapping up water from cups at rest areas, but nobody realized the dog was running solo. After running the final seven miles or so of the event, Dozer found his own way home Monday morning. He's in good health after a precautionary trip to the vet and he received a medal from race organizers!
The dog was chasing adventure and fun, and he found them both. He deserves the title of "Intrepid Superhero Pet"!
